TD Insurance Canada 2026: Rates, Alumni Discount & Savings

TD Insurance Canada 2026: Rates, Discounts & How I Saved $540

I’ve had TD Insurance Meloche Monnex for 3 years in Ontario.

In 2026, my car + home bundle costs $198 per month.

That’s $540 per year cheaper than my old Intact policy.

TD Insurance is underwritten by TD General Insurance.

It is sold direct + through Meloche Monnex for alumni and professional groups.

The big hook: multi-product and group discounts.

Get covered for $2M liability + collision.

TD Insurance Car Insurance Rates 2026

TD doesn’t do online quotes without personal info.

I pulled quotes for 2026 in Toronto, Halifax, and Vancouver.

  • 35yo, clean, alumni: $161 per month → Toronto, full coverage. Intact is $178.
  • 28yo, 1 minor ticket: $174 per month → Halifax, full coverage. Intact is $169.
  • 45yo, home bundle: $201 per month total → Vancouver. Intact is $219.
  • 22yo, new driver: $231 per month → Toronto, liability only. Intact is $215.

So, TD wins for alumni and professional groups + home bundle.

TD loses for young drivers or drivers with tickets.

Intact is cheaper if you have 1+ minor conviction.

TD Meloche Monnex Alumni Discount 2026

This is where TD crushes competitors.

If you graduated from these schools, you get 10-25% off.

Eligible groups 2026: UofT, McGill, UBC, Western, Queen’s, Waterloo, Engineers Canada, CPA, medical associations.

Full list = 60+ groups.

My example: UofT alumni = 18% discount.

Base rate $196 per month → $161 per month after alumni discount = $420 per year saved.

Catch: You must prove membership yearly.

Graduate in 2024? Discount drops in 2027 unless you join alumni association at $75 per year.

Still worth it.

No alumni? TD gives 10% for professional groups: engineers, accountants, teachers unions.

TD MyAdvantage App – Telematics Discount 2026

TD’s version of Desjardins Ajusto.

I used it 6 months.

How it works:

1. Download TD MyAdvantage app

2. Drives with you for 90 days minimum

3. Scores braking, acceleration, speed, time of day, phone distraction

4. Discount: 5% to 25% locked in at renewal

My score: 82/100 = 17% discount. Saved $331 per year.

Catch #1: Score below 70 = 0% discount + 5% surcharge. Drive bad and you pay MORE.

Catch #2: TD tracks night driving 12am-5am. Uber drivers get wrecked.

Catch #3: You must keep app 12 months or discount reverses.

TD Home Insurance Rates 2026

I bundle home for the 15% multi-product discount.

My 2026 Ontario home quote:

  • 3-bed detached, 1900 sq ft, built 2005
  • $600K dwelling, $120K contents, $2M liability
  • TD Insurance: $98 per month or $1,176 per year
  • Intact: $111 per month
  • PC Insurance: $89 per month

TD was mid-pack. PC was cheaper but $10K water limit vs TD’s $25K.

I picked TD for better coverage.

Pros of TD Insurance 2026

  • Alumni/Professional Discounts: 10-25% off. Biggest in Canada. Beats Intact/Desjardins if you qualify.
  • Multi-Product Discount: 15% off bundling car + home. Extra 5% if you add TD tenant or condo.
  • TD MyAdvantage: Up to 25% telematics discount. Real savings if you drive safe.
  • Claims App 4.1/5: TD app is better than PC/Aviva. Photo estimate in 2 hours.
  • Direct Repair Network: TD pays bodyshop direct. No out-of-pocket deductible at 400+ shops.

Cons of TD Insurance 2026

  • Expensive without discounts: Base rates 8-12% higher than Intact before alumni/bundle.
  • Strict on tickets: 1 minor ticket = 15% surcharge. 2 tickets = decline. Intact takes 2 tickets.
  • MyAdvantage penalty risk: Bad driving = surcharge. Most people don’t realize.
  • No Quebec advantage: Desjardins beats TD rates in Quebec 80% of the time.
  • Alumni proof yearly: Forget to renew alumni membership = discount disappears at renewal.

TD Insurance vs Intact vs Desjardins 2026

We compared 3 insurers for a 35-year-old in Toronto:

  • TD Insurance: $161 per month → Best for alumni, professionals
  • Intact: $178 per month → Best for 1 ticket
  • PC Insurance: $142 per month → Best for Loblaws shoppers

So, TD wins for alumni and professional groups.

Intact wins if you have tickets or claims.

PC wins for clean 35yo Loblaws shoppers.

How to Get TD Insurance Quote 2026

1. Go to tdinsurance.com

2. Click “Get a Quote” > Auto or Home

3. Enter postal code, car VIN, driver history. Takes 8 min.

4. Add alumni group code at checkout for 10-25% discount.

5. If approved, policy starts next day. Pink slip emailed in 10 min.

Final Verdict – Is TD Insurance Worth It in 2026?

Buy TD Insurance if: You qualify for alumni or professional discount, bundle home + auto, and have clean driving record. The 18-25% alumni discount makes TD cheapest in Canada for this group.

Skip TD Insurance if: You have 1+ tickets, don’t qualify for group discounts, live in Quebec, or drive for Uber. Go with Intact or Desjardins.

My 2026 cost: $161 car + $98 home = $259 per month. Minus 18% alumni + 15% bundle = $198 per month effective. That beat Intact by $45 per month.

Compare your rate at tdinsurance.com, then check Intact and PC. Never buy without 3 quotes.
